Tanzania is a generally safe and welcoming tourist destination, especially within its national parks where professional guides prioritize security. To minimize the low risk of petty crime like pickpocketing in crowded cities, travellers should always exercise common sense and avoid walking alone after dark. Solo female travelers are advised to book all ground transport and logistics through reputable tour operators and to maintain respectful attire in non-tourist areas (Source: General Travel Advisories & Tanzanian Tourism Industry Consensus).

Yes, most foreign nationals require an Ordinary Visa for tourism. The safest and most recommended method is to apply for an e-Visa online before your travel date to avoid long queues and potential complications upon arrival. Cost: The standard cost is US$50 for most nationalities, though citizens of the United States are required to pay US$100 for a multiple-entry visa. The official currency is the Tanzanian Shilling (TSh), but the US Dollar (USD) is the preferred and widely accepted currency for major tourist expenses such as safari payments, park fees, and tips; it is crucial that any USD cash brought is dated 2006 or newer as older bills are frequently rejected due to forgery concerns. You will need a supply of TSh, withdrawn from ATMs in major towns, for small local purchases and market shopping, while credit cards (especially Visa) are accepted at most mid-to-high-end lodges but often incur a significant 5% to 10% surcharge.

Tipping in Tanzania is highly recommended for excellent service on your Kilimanjaro trek and safari. The minimum recommended total tip for the mountain crew is US $190 to $250 per climber, The daily crew rates of Chief Guide $25, Assistant Guide $20, Cook $15, and Porters $8 -$10. For your safari guide/driver, a separate tip of $25 to $50 per person, per day is recommended.
