What is AFCON 2027?

AFCON 2027 — officially the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations Pamoja 2027 — is the 36th edition of Africa's biggest football tournament. It runs from 19 June to 17 July 2027 and is co-hosted by Tanzania, Kenya and Uganda. Pamoja is Swahili for “together”, and this is the first time three countries have shared the tournament.

It is also the first Africa Cup of Nations staged in East Africa since Ethiopia hosted in 1976. Twenty-four national teams compete, with the three host nations qualifying automatically.

AFCON 2027 in Tanzania: where the football happens

Tanzania's tournament home is the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam. At roughly 60,000 seats it is the largest venue of the tournament, and it hosts the opening match and opening ceremony. CAF confirms the full fixture list closer to the tournament, so we build trips that stay flexible around match days rather than locking you to a fixture that may move.

Why come early or stay on

June and July are the best months of the year to be in northern Tanzania. It is the height of the dry season: game viewing in the Serengeti and Ngorongoro Crater is at its strongest, the great wildebeest migration is moving through the western and northern Serengeti, and conditions on Mount Kilimanjaro are among the most stable and clear of the whole year.

Getting between the football and the wilderness is straightforward. Flights between Dar es Salaam and Kilimanjaro International Airport take about 1 hour 20 minutes, which puts the Serengeti, Kilimanjaro and Arusha within easy reach of match days. Zanzibar is a short hop from Dar es Salaam, making a beach finish the natural end to an AFCON 2027 trip.

Football & safari

Match days in Dar es Salaam, then fly north for the Serengeti, Ngorongoro Crater and Tarangire at the peak of migration season. The classic AFCON 2027 pairing.

Football & Kilimanjaro

Climb the Roof of Africa in the driest, clearest month of the year. Routes run 6–9 days, so a climb fits neatly before or after the group stage.

Football & Zanzibar

Finish on the Indian Ocean. Stone Town, spice farms and white-sand beaches are a short flight from Dar es Salaam — the easiest add-on of the three.

AFCON 2027 travel questions

When is AFCON 2027?

19 June to 17 July 2027, co-hosted by Tanzania, Kenya and Uganda as Pamoja 2027.

Where in Tanzania are AFCON 2027 matches played?

At the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam — around 60,000 seats, the tournament's largest venue, and host of the opening match. CAF confirms the detailed fixture list nearer the time.

Can I combine AFCON 2027 with a safari or a Kilimanjaro climb?

Yes, and it is the best time of year to do it. June and July are peak dry season in northern Tanzania. Dar es Salaam to Kilimanjaro International Airport is about a 1 hour 20 minute flight, so safaris and climbs slot around match days comfortably.

How far in advance should I book?

As early as you can. AFCON 2027 lands in Tanzania's busiest safari season, so lodges, permits and flights are under pressure from both the tournament and normal peak-season demand.

Is this the first Africa Cup of Nations in East Africa?

It is the first since Ethiopia hosted in 1976, and the first ever co-hosted by three nations.
