Why Tarangire National Park Deserves More Attention

Tarangire National Park is sometimes treated as a stop on the way to the Serengeti, but it deserves to be a destination in its own right. For many guests, Tarangire becomes one of the most memorable parts of the safari.
The park is famous for its elephant population and ancient baobab trees. During the dry season, the Tarangire River attracts animals from a wide area, creating excellent game viewing with herds of elephant, buffalo, zebra, wildebeest, and many predators nearby.
Tarangire also has a calmer rhythm than some of the more famous parks. The landscapes are varied, the light is beautiful for photography, and the birdlife is outstanding. Travelers who enjoy a mix of open savannah, river habitat, and a feeling of space usually love this park.
Because Tarangire works so well at the beginning of a northern circuit safari, it also helps guests settle into the pace of game drives before moving on to Ngorongoro or Serengeti. That balance makes the overall safari feel smoother.
