Hiking time: 3 to 4 hours. Meals and overnight at Mti Mkubwa Camp.

  • Day 2 Morning Mti Mkubwa Camp to Shira 1 Camp

  • Day 3 Morning Shira 1 Camp to Shira 2 Camp

Meals and overnight at Shira 2 Camp.

  • Day 4 Morning Shira 2 Camp to Barranco Camp via Lava Tower

This is a crucial acclimatization day. Ascend gradually to Lava Tower before descending to Barranco Camp. The climb-high sleep-low pattern helps your body adjust to altitude and improves summit success. Elevation: 3,850m to 4,630m, then descend to 3,950m. Hiking time: 6 to 7 hours. Meals and overnight at Barranco Camp.

  • Day 5 Morning Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp

  • Day 6 Morning Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp

Continue the steady ascent toward Barafu Camp, the traditional base camp for summit attempts from the southern side of Kilimanjaro. Meals and overnight at Crater Camp.

  • Day 8 Morning Crater Camp to Uhuru Peak and Descent to Mweka Camp

Wake early for a short summit push to Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa at 5,895 meters.
